It might be thought that it is no longer possible to bring anything altogether new to the stage, but the beautiful Ukrainian artiste SVETLANA has succeeded in the impossible.

At times a brightly painted marionette without strings, moving fitfully and jerkily, she takes on the persona of a puppet with breathtaking virtuosity, and does so with such mastery and detail of observation, that the audience has to resist reaching out and touching, just to see if there really is a person behind the artiste. Her expressionless face, her doll-like eyes and cupid’s bow lips combine with her movements to produce a breathtaking, even awesome effect.

Then again she becomes a lighted human candle, sinuously combining dance and contortionism in a routine of boneless gymnastic perfection, making and remaking herself in an endless series of rippling, undulating  transformations. There seems not to be a single bone in her body: balance and rhythm and grace are married in a seamless, aesthetically ravishing ballet.
